Well, quite a few of you cottoned onto the fact that the last tune was Rickie Lee Jones’ “Chuck E’s in Love. Congrats to the following players, who delivered the goods: Spnnrn, Mike (daddyo), rettaric, Trish & Todd, Alan Novich, Clete6, Tink, Paul S., Lynda, Renfield, Spudpar, Kann, TomL, Ladylion, Mike (mscho), Dan.

I’ll go to any lengths to get you to join Total-Oldies - you can view the latest standings here .. but you may have to sign up for Total-Oldies and the Name That Tune group in the process (bad bad Dave…)

Apart from that, I’m feeling benevolent today, so here’s another easy one…

So, did I catch you out on that one then? Nobody got all the answers correct, in fact only two players answered at all… Kudos then to Spnnrn and Mike (daddyo) for knowing that the title of the song was “We can work it out” from The Beatles. No-one recognised the singer in the clip, the late but great Steve Marriott with Humble Pie, from the Street Rats album.

By the way, doing a feature on Humble Pie got me to thinking about who is the greatest British Rock Vocalist of all time… have a look at the poll on the sidebar. These are the ones that came to my mind, but maybe you have other ideas. If you do, just add the names with the comments to Name that Tune

Hey, a few of you have signed up for Total Oldies, but I’m sure more of you will be interested in this project. go to www.totaloldies.ning.com to have a look, and if you like it, why not sign up on the spot.

Todays offering will I think be a little easier… have a listen to this

So, that last one certainly caught your imagination….

4 Points go to: Dan, Trishabug, Alan Novich, rettaric, Clete6, Trish and Todd, Spnnrn

These fine people knew that the clip was performed by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

2 Points go to: Renfield, Mike (mscho), Debi, Mark, Spudpar, Mike (daddyo), ladylion & TOM L

They knew that the original was sung by Tom Jones and the song was of course Delilah.

So, I enjoyed that so much that I’m going to do another one, only this time I think it may be a little more difficult (being the optimist that I am of course lol)

But before we start I would like to recommend “Total Oldies” to you all. This is a social network site started by me especially for lovers of oldies music… On this site you can discuss oldie themes, put up pics whatever you like, all in the privacy of Total Oldies. For only registered members can see your page, therefore no risk… A few days after starting this project, we already have 18 members, and I’m sure you will enjoy this … go to http://www.totaloldies.ning.com and register now :)
Over to todays song - a legendary song, made famous by a legendary band, sung today by another legendary band… but who are they all? I’m sure you will find out …

  1. Who is singing the actual clip (2 points)
  2. Who made this song famous (1 point)
  3. The title of the song (1 point)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

(BTW - I seem to be having certain problems with the player. Its probably my computer gone wonky again, but if you hear nothing, just let me know…cheers)

OK, I’m taking this game a step further today. The clip at the end of the post is a cover of a song made famous by somebody else. I want you to Name the Original.

But first lets recap on last weeks Name That Tune…. The Aritst I was looking for was Peter Frampton and his famous “Do You Feel Like We Do”, all the following players got it right… kudos go to Mike (mscho), Jansadiction, mstintear, Donna, Mike (daddyo), ladylion, Clete6, alan n., RENFIELD, rettaric, Anonymous, tink, Spnrnn.

Don’t forget to have a look at the poll on the sidebar to the right… I want to know your opinion!

Today I am asking you to identify the following tune…..I want to know

  1. Who is singing the actual clip (2 points)
  2. Who made this song famous (1 point) - easy ;)
  3. The title of the song (1 point) - also easy ;)

Let’s see what you make of it….

By the way, I hope to have the current standings up on the website by tomorrow…. thanks for bearing with me

Well you all had a good stab at the last clue, all the following knew that last weeks tune was Massachussetts by the BeeGee’s: Spnnrn, Trishabug, Mike (daddyo), Kick the Kann, Ellie, MARK, shar, spudpar, Renfield, Lynda, Dan, Tink, mstintear, Hil, Mike (mscho), TOM L, rettaric, Clete6, Ladylion, Debi… well done to you all!

At this point I would like to take a moment to introduce a new and exciting band to you. I heard them at a concert I went to at the end of May as part of the Kravetz JubilĂ© festival. They only did one song, but they blew me aways and much of the audience too. They go under the unlikely name of “My Baby Wants To Eat Your Pussy“… give this a listen (the guitarist with the long legs and short dress is by the way a guy…. 8-O, so dont get excited….lol)

I hope things will get back to normal fairly soon, I still have no access to the statistics, but I am keeping track of things, its a question of time only….

Todays choice may or may not be a little more difficult… I wonder. Let’s see how ell you know your guitar breaks, this is a classic song

Well my problems with access to the Internet turned out to be more serious than I thought, and I still don’t have full access, but it’s enough I think to carry on with Name That Tune, even though I must tell you that I still dont have access to the statistics, so there’ll be no standings published today.

The song from the last Name That Tune was in fact “Old Tige” by Jim Reeves. In spite of my challenge, the following people got song and artist correct: Spnnrn, mstintear, Dan, TOM L, shar, Ellie & Sev. Debi knew that it was Jim Reeves. Well done to all you people!

Quite a few actually thought that it was Pat Boone - not being too familiar with this music genre I can’t say whether it was a good guess or not lol, I will presume it was ;)
Over to today song: I thought I would put out an easy one to get you back into the mood of playing :) Let’s see what you make of this…
