Well, after only 5 players got the last tune correct, maybe its time to make things a little easier - or are you getting tired of playing? No? Thought not ….
I didn’t think that the last game was too difficult, but only 5 players got the 3 points on offer for correctly naming Jimi Hendrix and “Angel”, which of course was covered (very successfully I might add) in 1972 by a certain Rod Stewart
So, three points then to the following players: rettaric, Trish and Todd, Clete6, mike (daddyo) and Spnnrn. Well done to you all…. Spnnrn is sort of stretching out her lead at the top of the table (Which will be updated later on), so its up to the men to strike back. Sev announced he would take the table by storm now he is back, but you have to play to do that, don’t you Sev?
Over to todays song: Another 80s offering, here goes:

RTL Television (and I will be eternally indebted to them for giving me something to write about) has defined the most scandalous songs of all time
Examples?
Eminem: His song “Without Me” (2002) insulted just about every minority there is - as though he were a normal person himself …
George Harrison: “My Sweet Lord” was judged to have been stolen
Falco: Jeanny (Part One) Although this song was in German (was there an english version?), this song, about the abduction of a teenage girl as seen through the eyes of the psychopathic kidnapper, is full of merit, but was banned by most German Radio and TV stations. Headlines in the press were “Was Jeanny Raped?”. To the best of my knowledge, the is internationally known, and is certainly in my eyes Falcos finest hour!
Madonna: Like A Prayer was judged by the catholic church to be Blasphemy, as was Monty Python’s “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life (they ran riot against The Life of Brian…)
Frank Zappa’s “Bobby Brown” was just too much for the American public, and the Rolling Stones got all huffed up as the German CDU party used their song “Angie” as the theme tune of Chancellor Angela Merkel
Now its up to you to vote for the scandal song you personally like best… Please dont vote for the most scandalous song… Eminem (going to a quiet corner to throw up) would win hands down - as he in fact did on RTL. This way he has no chance I hope
[poll id="2"]
BTW, there is one song that I used to listen to (not openly though) when I was a teenager that would fit in this list… the one and only Judge Dread and “Big Six”
So, what do you think? Which song not on the list do you think should be there…
Hurray, I’ve finally found the plugin that I was looking for for so long… Now I am able to comment on the comments without mixing up the order, so here is the link to the comments from the last “Name That Tune”
The answer, by the way, was The Fortunes - Storm in a Teacup, as was recognised by
Clete6, rettaric, Trish and Todd, and Spnnrn.
Alan Novich and Dan knew that the song was Storm in a Teacup. Some players thought I was looking for Lynsey de Paul, who in fact did cover this song, but she is female, and the voice in the clip was definately male…. Thats what happens when you go a googling
If you would like to here the full song, please go to the Name That Tune page, or click here . For certain reasons this page is restricted to members, so dont forget to register - all membership was unfortunately lost when I changed the page…
3 points for today offering… as well as artist and song, theres a bonus point for anyone who can tell me which British (Scottish) singer had a hit covering this song in the 70s
Here we go:

“The Family of Richard Wright, founder member of Pink Floyd, announce with great sadness that Richard died today after a short struggle with cancer” (Wright’s spokesman)
“No one can replace Richard Wright. He was my musical partner and my friend. In the welter of arguments about who or what was Pink Floyd, Rick’s enormous input was frequently forgotten. He was gentle, unassuming and private but his soulful voice and playing were vital, magical components of our most recognised Pink Floyd sound.” (David Gilmour)
Richard, who appeared for the first time on Pink Floyds first album “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” has gone to “The Great Gig in the Sky”

So, you think its getting too easy, do you? (Only) 13 answers for the last issue of Name That Tune doesnt exactly point that way, but then again as I always maintain - there are no difficult clues, either you know it, then its easy, if you dont it isnt…
Maybe you have noticed that we have a new logo for “Name That Tune” - how do you like it? Also, I’m slowly getting the look and feel of the site the way I want it. Comments as always are most welcome (but only if they’re honest opinions. Oh, and by the way, if anyone does get any error messages about scripts not working or being damaged etc…, please let me know. Cheers
Well done the following players who knew that Name That Tune 23 was
“Kiss - Beth”
(OK, so it was easy, but dont get used to it):
- Dan, Mike (mscho), Trish and Todd, TOML, Alan Novich, Spud, Krissy, Renfield, Spnnrn, Mike (daddyo), Sev, Ellie and Clete6.
I’m not sure about todays tune.. it was a hit in England all of 35 years ago, but whether it crossed the Atlantic, I can’t say for sure. See what you make of this

If I am to believe a rumour I heard a day or two ago (and it does come from a reliable source) then the German GEMA is about to close its doors…
The GEMA is “one of the world’s leading authors’ societies for works of music. We offer our customers the worldwide repertoire of music and provide comprehensive and attractive services for all music authors and rights owners. We have developed new forms of economic cooperation with sister societies and other partners, taking advantage of their respective strengths. We are member-oriented and customer-oriented. We act quickly and flexibly.” (Source: GEMA Website)
In short, the GEMA protects the rights of the artists, issues permissions for public performance etc…
With the rise of music sharing and downloading in the Internet, the GEMA has found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the pace, too few employees have been faced with the massive task of issuing licenses as well as tracking down pirates. If the rumour is true, then they have obviously decided to admit defeat…. sadly.
Because the legislation hasnt changed. Downloading is still illegal unless licensed. Presumably, with the absence of a body to represent the rights of the artists, the licensing will pass into the hands of the big record companies and publishers, who of course will do their utmost to protect their assets - i.e. the Superstars. The losers are going to be the “ordinary” musicians, who don’t have the might of the recording industry behind them. It will be a sad day for music.
