Do not miss this!! Here is Josefin (Yoyo) Buohler singing a Christina Aguilera song on the German TV production of “Super Talent”. She is only 13 years old, and surely in for a great future … This video is from the semi-final. And how she didn’t win in the final is a mystery to me … what do you think?

If you can’t see the vidoe, here is a link … http://www.clipfish.de/channel/249/video/2826286/supertalent-yoyo-buohler-im-halbfinale/

The Bambi

The Bambi

Now, the German Media Awards are not the kind of thing I watch on TV or even follow, and I certainly don’t take them seriously, but the presentation yesterday made me cock up an eyebrow

It reminded me of a conversation I had with a singer I know a couple of weeks ago about the presentation of her image. I told her “no publicity is bad publicity” and named Brittany Spears as an example. Although she had done nothing for the last year or two, she has always been in the headlines and has been talked about. Of course, this example is grossly exaggerated, I wasn’t expecting the singer to follow what I had said to the book - I was just trying to illustrate the power of publicity.

The answer I got was, yes, but Ms Speares will never be taken seriously as a music artist again, and she will have no chance of getting things back together artistically…

I’m sorry to say, you are wrong Caro! Brittany Speares was yesterday awarded a Bambi (German Media Award) in the category “Pop International”). Whatever caused Burda Medien to do this, I really can’t say, it is in my humble opinion a slap in the face of any artist that takes his or her music seriously.

and strangely, there doesn’t seem to be a category for “pop national”. don’t these people believe in home grown music, or do they just not care?

A record collector in Linz, Austria has won a rare copy of The Beatles “White Album” on an Ebay auction. The copy of the record with the serial number 0000005 was sold for £19201

As we move into the Last Edition of “Name That Tune” for 2008, there are points galore to be won, as I present no less than 10 clips for you to guess at and analyse - breathtaking diversity from Opera to Pop and British Invasion makes sure that there is something for everyone, and its a chance to boost your points and move up in the table … And, for players who aren’t too far up the table, its double points  today …. four points for each clip makes a total of 40 points to go for….

Here’s the first… the song is quite straightforward, but do you remember the artist?

Last week there were 15 points on offer as I threw in a 70s hit from Europe which I surmised wasn’t so well known in the USA. Looks like I was right as only two players got the ten point bonus that really has changed the look of the table… But one thing after another: Congrats to Alan Novich and Trish/Todd who both knew that the bonus clip was Springwater - I Will Return.

Congrats also to the following players, who knew that the other clip was Human League and Don’t You Want Me Baby

Alan Novich, Clete6, TOM L, Dan, rettaric, Spnnrn, Mike (mscho), Renfield, Trish and Todd

Song and artist for these offerings also…

Moving up to Christmas its time to think of those who are not as fortunate as we … The Mystery Lyrics Charity “Bridge to the Stars” supports both the “Make A Wish Foundation” and the “Hamburg Childrens Hospice”. Both support very sick children that possibly don’t have much of a future … We got off to a great start last week and after another generous donation, this time by Renfield, we stand at $32.83. There are two ways to help. Either by donating via Paypal (see left sidebar on this site) or by buying your goods in the Bridge to the Stars Online Store in the main menu …

Take your time with this one …. I’ll let you know before I close the page…

A little late this week, but here we go with Name That Tune 33. It will be the penultimate game of this series, next week will be the last. Christmas is creeping up on us, and I most likely won’t have time to keep up with this game in December. The new series, in which everybody starts from the beginning as far as the scores are concerned, will start in January.

Let’s see if anyone can catch up with Spnnrn, who at the moment leads the field.

First though, let’s have a look at last week…

Last week I presented a classic from the movie “High Society” The song I was looking for was True Love‘ as performed by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. The cover I was talking of was by Elton John and Kiki Dee. For a bonus point, I wanted to know which version you liked best.

Five Points then go to Trish and Todd, Dan, Alan Novich, Clete6 and Spnnrn. Well done all of you!

this weeks song was one of the biggest selling UK singles of all time and was released in 1981 … let’s see if you recognise it.

and heres a bonus, for 10 points ….

This instrumental song was a hit all over Europe in 1971,
got to no. 5 in the UK, no. 3 in Germany and no. 1 in Switzerland. Do you know this one???

You may have seen that I have started our old charity “Bridge to the Stars” again. After paying in the balance of 75 Euros to the Hamburg Childrens Hospice, we have started from scratch, and after one week, the total already stands $13.91, due mainly to a generous donation by Andy.

If you think you would like to help, then you have 2 choices. Either buy your xmas goods and Cds etc. through the online store, or, if you feel able, then you are welcome to make a donation via Paypal, by filling in the details at the foot of the sidebar

Remember, you are helping sick children. More about our charity on the Bridge to the Stars page

Well, after the bio from Krissy, I don’t really know what to say….

These days probably most of you will know that I was born and bred in Yorkshire, England before moving to Hamburg in Germany after leaving school. I had long considered that my worse move, but one day I realised that I couldn’t regret the move, because it would be regretting my kids - if I hadn’t come here I might well have children, but they wouldn’t be the same (does this make sense?)

Anyway music and internet, soccer and rugby league are my main hobbies. As far as music is concerned, I might have mellowed through the years, but basically still like the same stuff… What I can’t do with is the commercial stuff they call “adult music” these days - like Tina Turner, Phil Collins and such. And, I would rather go to a concert in a smaller downtown club than to one in a stadium or similar, then there the real music is being played. And as anyone who has been here knows, Hamburg still has a vibrant music scene.

My favorites are as a rule rather obscure … Maggie Bell (met her last year after running after her for 35 years lol) and Stone The Crows are still unsurpassed imho. Slade and Status Quo played a huge part in my youth. Then of course, there’s Caro ….

Caro was an idol of my youth, hailed as the discovery of the year, winner of the German Record Prize (Now ECHO) I still remember the concerts in Hamburg, she was 19 years old, so was I - Great days. And then a couple of years ago when she started her comeback, I got to know her and her husband. And after doing the fan-site for a couple of years, I have now been asked to take over her official home page. Great times are back :)
