Although the Mystery Lyrics Calendar isnt working at the moment, this birthday bio from Krissy is just too good to miss!
Favorite music: many and varied, but generally classic rock and blues. LOVE blues, any era.
I have recently been swindled into making horse show-shirts for a girl I work with. 400 rhinestones and all. Don’t ask.
My mother is a writer, currently inventing a language of the witches. She was also a Naval Combat nurse in Vietnam, a serious protester, hung out with Abbie Hoffman, and once got herself arrested for chaining herself to an Administration desk at Drake University in Iowa. My grandfather still cackles thinking about bailing her out of jail. She did not find his delight as entertaining. Mom rules.

Bridge to the Stars update 11/2008
Remember “Bridge to the Stars” - our own charity that benefits the Sternenbrücke Childrens Hospice in Hamburg and more recently the “Make A Wish” Foundation?
I have made the current account of $74.34 a round 75 Euros and transfered the balance to the bank account of the Hospice today. Thus the current account now stands at 0.00 and we are ready to build up again!
Transfer report (PDF) (pop-up)
In the sidebar on the right hand side of the page, you are now able to donate to this charity directly through paypal, and, as has always been the case, any takings generated through clicking on Amazon links on this website will also be donated to Bridge to the Stars
Update: The Bridge to the Stars Online Store is now back online. You can access via the menu or click here. Let’s see if we can get some money generated for christmas for our charity!

In future I will think twice about sending out Tunes on a sunday. For some reason, sundays offerings don’t seem to be read as much as when I send them on monday…. this week though I have no choice, dental appointment tomorrow, and I probably won’t be in the mood for sending out clues afterwards.
unfortunately I am going to have to disable the Mystery Lyrics Calendar. It is causing big problems with the slide show and the pictures, and that I can’t do with… I will be looking out for other solutions, but until then , we will have to do without it, I’m afraid
| Todays offering is one of my all time favorite songs, and it dates back to 1956 I believe (Hil, this one is for you!).
There are 5 points on offer for today’s clip! Name the Tune for 1 point, name both artists singing the song for points no 2 & 3 For extra points! This song was covered in the early 90s (guessing) by an english couple, (in my opinion the cover version came nowhere near the original!) For points 4 & 5, name the couple that sang the duett again in the 90s. Oh and if you tell me which version you like best, and why, then there’s an extra bonus point, making it 6 Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Back to the fray, I’m sending this out on sunday evening instead of tomorrow due to LDR Meetings at work.
I’d like though just to fill you in with some of the features on this page. Some of you may have noticed that the event calendar stopped working. It was a problem with the plugin, which the author seems to have solved, at least everything seems to be working again.
Soon you will also be able to send eCards directly from the Mystery Lyrics Site. I am working on the graphics at the moment, if anyone would like to help, why not get in touch…
Now to Name That Tune
| I fancy this weeks offering may be a little more difficult. Although this 80s song was a huge hit, I’m not sure that it was so popular in the USA, and the words are all mumble jumbled making it a hard job for Google today Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Comments from last week:
“My sister had this album and played it 24/7 in the early 70’s” “miss kiki dee and amoureuse. she had something for a while. hope it wasn’t only elton !” |
Desert Island Discs
I came across an article on one of the websites I read regularly that caught my interest.
One of the oldest music programmes in England is a Show called “Desert Island Discs”. It has been running regularly since 1942.
Today I want to introduce this game to Mystery Lyrics.
The rules are simple: You are stranded on a desert island. (How you know this before hand escapes me, but never mind.) You are allowed
- 8 Records or CDs
- 1 Book. You don’t need to take the Bible or other religious book, because its already there. So are the complete works of Shakespeare
- 1 Luxury Item. Your luxury item cannot be anything that might aid your escape from the island (like a boat…), or anything that would produce music, like an iPod
So, what would you take with you, and why?
Think about it and put your suggestions in the comments box below.

Thanks to the BBC’s “Desert Island Discs” and to Yellow Swordfish for inspiration

Well, after presenting the Who’s “Won’t Get Fooled Again” the previous week, I obviously thought it would be appropriate to fool myself last week. Thing is, I always check the songs I want to present on the Billboard Website to make sure that they are in fact tunes that hit the US charts - no point in sending clues to songs that you have no chance of recognising… Anyway, I obviously looked at the wrong song, as I noted that it reached no. 46 on the Billboard charts in 1968, whereas it did in fact get to number 1 in 1967. This made of course a gimme for a lot of you, which I hadn’t quite intended
| No matter, let’s see what you make of this clip. The artist concerned was one of my favorite vocalists in the 70s. She has had a long career, and is still singing.
I remember Kent talking about this song a few years ago, saying that he had gone out to buy the LP just because of this song, (which is also what I did) so I know some of you will recognise it. Just for the record, I have been unable to find any Billboard statistics for this song (how convenient lol) Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Knowing that you are all lovers of good music, I’m sure you won’t mind me plugging one of my favorite artists on this page. Many of you will know that I got to know Caro, one of my idols from my youth, a couple of years ago, and since then have been involved, designing the official fan webpages. Now, at last, Caro’s latest album is available at CDBaby, and thus to the US music loving public. You can preview the album at www.caro-fans.com and buy at CDBaby if you like it. Or … a long shot, if you’re a reader of Forgotten Hits, there are 3 Caro LPs to be won |
