Welcome back to Name That Tune! It took a little longer than envisaged due to heavy workload in the internet, but here I am again. All start on 0 points today so there’s everything to play for, and I would hope for a good turn out today …
Todays tune is, as far as I am aware, the only drum solo ever to be a chart hit! At least in England it was… One of the greatest rock drummers of his time, this single is from the early Seventies, he became more famous in the second half of the decade with one of the greatest rock bands of the seventies. I don’t know if this was a hit in the USA, but I hope the clues I have given will lead you to the correct result!

A bonus point for telling me what band he played in in the second half of the 70s, ultimately doing more for his reputation as this single did.
As you may have seen on the front page, I am still looking for a few authors to take the website to its next logical stage! Anyone with an interest in music, film, entertainment etc.. who feels he or she could contribute now and again to this website (no schedules or obligations, just when you feel like it), please get in touch… cheers
And now, have fun with “Name That Tune”

The Scorpions.
Heated discussions over the cover of a Scorpions LP that was released in 1976. After the British Internet Watch Foundation had lifted the blacklisting of the wikipedia page depicting the album cover, on the grounds that it was futile to try and ban a picture that had been released over 30 years ago, the very same page has now been reported to the German FSM (Voluntary Self Regulation of Multimedia Providers). Founder member of the Scorpions Rudolph Schenker is obviously embarrassed with the whole discussion, and has been quoted as saying “We’d never make a cover like that these days… child pornography is abominable. In those days though it (the picture, not child pornography … the editor) was nothing … it just wasn’t an issue”
So, what’s the big deal? Talk is of the cover of the Scorpions LP “Virgin Killer” (which wasn’t a big commercial success anyway). The cover depicts a nude ten year old girl, whose genitals are hidden by a crack in the glass, which she is posing behind… Critics point out the potentially pedophilic nature of the picture, and it’s hard to disagree with them…
The blacklisting by the Internet Watch Foundation, which effectively blocked the wikipedia page to many surfers, was reversed after the foundation came to the conclusion that there wasn’t any point in blocking the page anymore, as the picture was far too widespread for a ban to have any effect… (a reasoning I personally find very strange)
Sort of reminiscent of the cover to “Blind Faith” by the way…

A German county court has ruled that the guitar intro to Gary Moore’s hit “Still Got The Blues” from 1991 is stolen. German musician Jürgen Winter had maintained that not Gary Moore but he himself had written the legendary guitar riff in 1974, more than 15 years before Gary released the song.
The court were faced with deciding whether Gary could have heard Jürgen’s song, as it had never been released on vinyl or cassette. It had however been played at concerts and was broadcast at least once on the radio. As Gary Moore had been in Germany at the time, the court ruled that it was possible that he had heard the song, and an expert for the court decided that it was possible that Gary could have remembered the melody all those years.
It was stressed that the court didnt think that it had been copied purposely, but that was irrelevant.
Now Gary has to proove how much he earned with this song…
If you want to judge for yourself, both songs are (at present) on youtube

The Original from Jürgen Winter recorded in 1974. The song is over 12 minutes long, but you want to listen to the interesting passage that caused the controversy from 6 minutes 20 seconds

What do you think?
Do not miss this!! Here is Josefin (Yoyo) Buohler singing a Christina Aguilera song on the German TV production of “Super Talent”. She is only 13 years old, and surely in for a great future … This video is from the semi-final. And how she didn’t win in the final is a mystery to me … what do you think?
If you can’t see the vidoe, here is a link … http://www.clipfish.de/channel/249/video/2826286/supertalent-yoyo-buohler-im-halbfinale/

Now, the German Media Awards are not the kind of thing I watch on TV or even follow, and I certainly don’t take them seriously, but the presentation yesterday made me cock up an eyebrow
It reminded me of a conversation I had with a singer I know a couple of weeks ago about the presentation of her image. I told her “no publicity is bad publicity” and named Brittany Spears as an example. Although she had done nothing for the last year or two, she has always been in the headlines and has been talked about. Of course, this example is grossly exaggerated, I wasn’t expecting the singer to follow what I had said to the book - I was just trying to illustrate the power of publicity.
The answer I got was, yes, but Ms Speares will never be taken seriously as a music artist again, and she will have no chance of getting things back together artistically…
I’m sorry to say, you are wrong Caro! Brittany Speares was yesterday awarded a Bambi (German Media Award) in the category “Pop International”). Whatever caused Burda Medien to do this, I really can’t say, it is in my humble opinion a slap in the face of any artist that takes his or her music seriously.
and strangely, there doesn’t seem to be a category for “pop national”. don’t these people believe in home grown music, or do they just not care?
