There are no birthdays on the list today, so I  can get on with todays Mystery Lyrics.

When I realized the date for my Hosting this week, I threw out the song I was planning on presenting in favor of something a little more appropriate, and again, its a song I hope hasnt been done before on Mystery Lyrics. I know the group has, in fact if memory serves me correctly, once by me… (Update - it hasnt. Thanks Cheryl)

One of Americas best vocalists, and certainly one of the most pretty ;), this band has been around for a long time. In spite of lots of changes in the line up due to the fact that members invariable insisted on killing themselves, they have gained a formidable reputation worldwide. I saw them live about 15 years ago in Hamburg when they took on a lethargic audience and won them over…

This is a song of hope

“When you’re standing at the crossroads
Don’t know which path to choose”

I think sexy suits chrissie more than pretty, and there were a few drug deaths, etc., but you are so right: she is one of our best vocalists, and has always surrounded herself with great musicians. the cornerstone has always been martin chambers, a great drummer in the pick withers/terry williams vein, and james honeyman scott, the fabulous guitarist who is no longer with us. I have seen the pretenders three times, the first when brass in pocket first came out, and have followed them thru billy bremner and robbie mcintosh and her relationships with ray davies and jim kerr and thru it all, her voice has mesmerized me. oh yes, this is I’ll stand by you. I still love brass in pocket the best, but my favorite lyric is “i’m not the girl I used to be I’ve got a kid I’m 33″ in triple tempo. Wow.

from “Middle of the Road” if I’m not mistaken… yes Alan, she is pretty, sexy, whatever you like, but more important, she does have a great singing voice, although I do find her songwriting a little erratic sometimes …. I’ll stand by you is of course completely correct wtg!!

    Hiya Dave,
I’d say it was Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders doing I’ll Stand By You. From Ohio she is and Den would be the first to tell you so if he wasn’t laid up with his back (unless he answered while I was over at his Moms place)
Chrissie Hynde certainly has a good voice, and this is a good song much more on the mellow side than say Brass in Pocket which is the first Pretenders video/songs I ever saw/heard.
    Been a fan ever since.

    I’ll Stand By You
Chrissie Hynde was indeed a hottie. Is she still married to the guy from Simple Minds?

    Pretenders

    I’LL STAND BY YOU/lyrics
Oh, why you look so sad?
    Tears are in your eyes
Come on and come to me now
    Dont be ashamed to cry
    Let me see you through
cause Ive seen the dark side too
When the night falls on you
You dont know what to do
    Nothing you confess
Could make me love you less

    Ill stand by you
    Ill stand by you
    Wont let nobody hurt you
    Ill stand by you

So if youre mad, get mad
    Dont hold it all inside
Come on and talk to me now
Hey, what you got to hide?
    I get angry too
Well Im a lot like you
When youre standing at the crossroads
And dont know which path to choose
    Let me come along
    cause even if youre wrong

    Ill stand by you
    Ill stand by you
    Wont let nobody hurt you
    Ill stand by you
Take me in, into your darkest hour
    And Ill never desert you
    Ill stand by you

    And when…
When the night falls on you, baby
    Youre feeling all alone
You wont be on your own

    Ill stand by you
    Ill stand by you
    Wont let nobody hurt you

    Ill stand by you
Take me in, into your darkest hour
    And Ill never desert you
    Ill stand by you
    Ill stand by you
    Wont let nobody hurt you
    Ill stand by you
    Wont let nobody hurt you
    Ill stand by you

    (((DAVE))) Hugs, Geena
