WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR’S EDITION OF MYSTERY LYRICS
with your host Dave
I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and thank you for your loyalty in the year that just ended. What started life as an experiment, has now become an integral part of Mystery Lyrics - playing via this blog! And for the sceptics under you that have not yet been convinced of playing this way - why not join us here for all the fun! Have a shot at the ML Forum while you’re here, where you can discuss anything you like (well, within reason lol…). You never know, you might like it….
There are no birthdays in Lyricland on this auspicious date, so let’s deliver the goods and get on with the clue
Driving back home from shopping this evening, my wife said to me: “You’re fifty years old - don’t you think it’s time you started quietening down musicwise?” The reason for this observation was that I had come out of the store with “The Stranglers - Norfolk coast” tucked under my arm.
This innocent enough observation reminded me inexplicably of the song I would like to introduce to you today. This “new wave” song hit the British charts in 1980, peaking at no. 5 in August of that year. It was from the soundtrack of the Brian Gibson movie “Breaking Glass”, starring, as well as our heroine, Phil Daniels, Jon Finch and Jonathan Pryce. The location for most of the film was Londons “Rainbow Theatre”
The IMDb database says of todays artist..”Talented musician and actress, (her) career has been a rollercoaster one. Her breakthrough came in the film Breaking Glass (1980), in which she played a singer struggling to cope within the music industry. Sadly, this was to be the case in her music career as she battled over copyrights and clauses for a number of years. However, her determination persevered and she now happily records and tours with her friend, Carmac De Barra.”
Your lyrics are: Behold what I have done, I’ve made a better world for everyone

8th day by hazel oconnor and there is no percentage in not listening to one’s wife. trust me: i didn’t listen to three of them ! happy new year, everyone. try something new this year: listen to a little opera. start with carmen, then rigoletto. there are many joys hidden in these scores.
Dave on Mon, 31st Dec 2007 5:42 pm
hmm Alan, I’ll pass over the suggestion of listening to opera if you don’t mind… I dont particularly object to the male voices, but I certainly can’t put up with squeaky sopranos you know… Any how, Happy New Year to you too, and congrats on the first correct answer of 2008!!

Eighth Day
In the beginning was the word, man said: Let there be more light
Electric scenes and laser beams, neon brights the light abhorring nights
On the second day he said: Let’s have a gas
Hydrogen and cholera and pest
Let’s make some germs, we’ll poison the worms
Man will never be suppressed
And he said: Behold what I have done
I’ve made a better world for everyone
Nobody laugh, nobody cry
World without end, forever and ever
Amen, amen, amen
On the third we get green and blue for pie
On the fourth we send rockets to the sky
On the fifth make the beasts and submarines
On the sixth man prepares his final dream:
In our image, let’s make robots for our slaves
Imagine all the time that we can save
Computers, machines, the silicon dream
Seventh he retired from the scene
And he said: Behold what I have done
I’ve made a better world for everyone
Nobody laugh, nobody cry
World without end, forever and ever
Amen (amen), amen (amen), amen (amen)
On the eighth day machine just got upset
A problem man had never seen as yet
No time for flight, a blinding light
And nothing but a void, forever night
He said: Behold what man has done
There’s not a world for anyone
Nobody laughed, nobody cried
World’s at an end, everyone has died
Forever amen (amen), amen (amen), amen (amen)
He said: Behold what man has done
There’s not a world for anyone
Nobody laughed, nobody cried
World’s at an end, everyone has died
Forever amen (amen), amen (amen), amen (amen)
(Amen)
