Welcome to Mystery Lyrics with your host Dave.

If you are a casual visitor to this site and would like to join the Mystery Lyrics Family, you can subscribe by hitting the “register” tab at the top of the page. You will then receive a Mystery Lyric per day via email from one of our Hosts (I’m the exotic one, playing by weblog)

Mystery Lyrics has always been a forum in which members are invited to express their personal opinions about music and musicians, songwriters, producers, agents etc., associated therewith. These are, however, merely the opinions and comments of the respondents and not necessarily shared by the Mystery Lyrics Hosts or other list members.

There are no birthdays on the list for today, so lets get on with the clue.

“One of the most successful, and certainly one of the most prolific, German rock groups of the ’60s, (they) enjoyed reasonable success in their native land without making much of an impression elsewhere (though some of their material was released in other countries). Starting out in the same Star Club-based Hamburg scene as the Liverpool groups of the early ’60s, their early repertoire was built upon a similar base of ’50s rock and soul/R&B. They released about 30 singles during the ’60s (some on the Star-Club label itself), as well as almost ten albums, eventually making the transition to original material, and marching on well into the 1970s.” Richie Unterberger, All Music Guide

Todays choice peaked at no. 8 in the UK Charts at the back end of 1970 spending 15 weeks in total in the charts, even getting into the US Billboard charts at no. 79

The Lyric is…: Can’t you see my deathfear, I can hear her voice shoutin’ everywhere

This band hasnt been featured before, so throw at me what you have

    The Witch

    Can’t you see me runnin’
    I am really runnin’
    for ma life
    guess from where I’m
    comin’
    guess why I’m runnin
    for my life.

    Can’t you see the witch
    can’t you see the witch
    can’t you see the
    witch by my side.

    Can’t you see the witch
    can’t you see the witch
    [ Lyrics found at http://www.mp3lyrics.org/Fkhp ]
    can’t you see the
    witch by my side.

    Can’t you see my deathfear
    I can hear her voice
    Shoutin’ everywhere
who know what I’ve could done
    it must be so bad
    that a witch does care.

    Can’t you see the witch
    can’t you see the witch
    can’t you see the
    witch by my side.

    Can’t you see the witch
    can’t you see the witch
    can’t you see the
    witch by my side.

    Hi Dave:
I came up with The Rattles, doing The Witch, which is not to be confused with The Witch doing The Rattles. What with group names, who can tell anymore?

I think you’re just trying to get me confused Hil..lol. But of course it could be true, all the “thes” in those days ;) It hasnt got any easier though, I cant even pronounce some of the names these days (and I wouldnt if I could, most likely). Anyway, back to the lyric. Your research was most sound, so its well done to you today!

seems to be rossetta stone by rattles
not The Rosetta Stone which is a stone with writing on it in two languages (Egyptian and Greek), using three scripts (hieroglyphic, demotic and Greek).

Why is it in three different scripts?

The Rosetta Stone is written in three scripts because when it was written, there were three scripts being used in Egypt.

The first was hieroglyphic which was the script used for important or religious documents.

I hope you can do the hyperlink seems to be a good one but an awful lot to copy and paste LOL

ah (((Cheryl))), what a pity that such hard work should not be rewarded by a completely correct answer. The band is correct, but I’m afraid you got the song wrong. Rossetta Stone (it rings a bell) it is not but The Witch. Fascinating story though, and therefore a very large half WTG!!

I always thought you did a fabulous job and brought back memories in music of the old days when I was stationed in Germany with the US Army. Thank you for everything you did for Mystery Lyrics and consider this an open invatation to return to hosting should you see fit.
