I thought I would take the opportunity today of familiarizing you with some features on this website.
- The birthday list. If you have a look at the right sidebar, you will see the names and dates of this months birthdays in Lyricland. If the birthday child has submitted a bio, it is also featured as an excerpt on the sidebar. By clicking on the name, the respective post is opened where you can read the whole of the bio, as well as being able to leave your comments to congratulate the person in question.
There are however no birthdays today according to the Mystery Lyrics Calendar, so lets get on with the job…
This was one of my favourite songs until Phil Collins covered (so I’m not after Phil, that much is clear ..lol) The band was founded in 1963 and their name was inspired by a British movie starring Dirk Bogarde . Their first hit single “Um Um Um Um Um Um” led to a tour with Brenda Lee. they also scored in the USA with the single “Game of Love”. After a tour of America in 1965 their lead singer rather abruptly left the band in the middle of a concert, so they immediately dropped his name from the band.
Todays song is the first single released after the departure of their lead singer. It was a huge hit in UK and USA alike, reaching number 2 in the US. Amazingly this band has not been featured before.
Your Lyrics: “When Im feeling blue, all I have to do Is take a look at you”
Google will take you to Phil Collins, but it is not the artist I am looking for!!

Wouldn’t you agree…baby you and me got a groovy kind of love!!
Are you looking for The Mindbenders on this one?
Dave on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 9:35 am
Well done Krissy! You are the first in this week with the correct answer, even though answering per email is strictly speaking chesting ~ but just a little lol… WTG
Mark on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 4:44 pm
“Groovy Kind of Love”
by Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders
I also like Phil Collins’ version but this is the one from my youth.

Well Mark, Phil Collins was alright as a drummer with Genesis in the 70s, but as a singer, he’s not my cup of tea. The Mindbenders version is really superior in my opinion. You delivered the goods today though, so its WTG to you!
Penguin on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 5:17 pm
The song is “Groovy Kind of Love” by the Mindbenders (minus Wayne.)
Dave on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 5:17 pm
right you are Jean, and without Wayne is also correct, as this single was relased after he had left the band. Just a detail, but an important one I think. WTG

Always like one I can answer right off the top of my head without thinking about it for even a minute. This is Groovy Kind of Love, a brit invasion song by the mindbenders, led by wayne fontana, but not for long after. a trivial band, sort of billy j kramer and the dakotas without the beatle connection but they had their fifteen minutes and a couple of hits.
Dave on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 5:25 pm
Before in fact, Alan. I like to send a gimme now and again, just to remind me that there are people that read my posts and reply if they know the answer. Otherwise i just lose touch…. lol. I always like this song, in those days (I would have been about
I liked what I liked, without giving thought to whether the artist was serious about his music or not. And nowadays its all about taking a trip down memory lane… wtg!
rettaric on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 7:33 pm
….wayne fontana & the mindbenders…..groovy kind of love…..
Dave on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 7:34 pm
wtg Rett, you are correct!
Scott on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 7:59 pm
Wow, a serious gimme today, Dave. These are the Mindbenders, minus Wayne Fontana, doing their biggest hit, Groovy Kind of Love. Too bad they just declined after that, always a good listening band.
Dave on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 8:00 pm
Yo, now and again I need to feed you all Scott
Ad as you delivered the goods its wtg to you today!

Hiya Dave… not sure my comment made it along with the photo, but I sent a mini biography from Wikipedia. Didn’t get a chance to say, that Groovy Kind of Love was easy easy easy as was The Mindbenders. I prefer their version over Phil Collins, never heard the original version by Diane and Annita from 1965…

((((Dave))) I know this song is Groovy Kind Of Love. I admit to not knowing the band til I looked it up, apparently it’s the Mindbenders. I’m with ya on the Phil thing, by the way.
Thanks,
Sabrina
Dave on Mon, 5th Nov 2007 10:30 pm
Good to have you in here Sabrina ;). I’m surprised how many people agree with me on Phil Collins, I must admit, it all goes to show though what good taste in music we have…wtg!!
Hil on Tue, 6th Nov 2007 12:51 am
Hi Dave:
Even without the Phil Collins clue and the Dirk Bogarde clue, this one is indeed a “gimme”. I DID have to sing my way to the title, however. Wayne Fontana& The MindBenders “Groovy Kind of Love”. Groovy!!!
Dave on Tue, 6th Nov 2007 12:52 am
Hi Hil,
A gimme or two now again is OK I think, otherwise I would never get readers on this page…
The Mindbenders it is indeed, without Wayne Fontana though, he didnt survive the US Tour… WTG!!
renfield on Tue, 6th Nov 2007 1:10 am

the MINDBENDERS
i think i got the album one xmas…
a mere child.. what would i want with it ?
yeah.. phil collings never did it for me…
as a singer or as a pompous ass…
he’s another one of those guys that buys into his ‘great’ looks when it’s only his fame that lets him make believe…
Dave on Tue, 6th Nov 2007 1:11 am
So you dont like Phil Collins, hey Gary? Well I cant say I disagree with you on that… lol, I might not go so far though.
Sounds like you got it right today, so WTG my friend!!!
Bill on Tue, 6th Nov 2007 2:32 am
