Name That Tune 32

7

In future I will think twice about sending out Tunes on a sunday. For some reason, sundays offerings don’t seem to be read as much as when I send them on monday…. this week though I have no choice, dental appointment tomorrow, and I probably won’t be in the mood for sending out clues afterwards.
unfortunately I am going to have to disable the Mystery Lyrics Calendar. It is causing big problems with the slide show and the pictures, and that I can’t do with… I will be looking out for other solutions, but until then , we will have to do without it, I’m afraid

Last weeks choice was not so easy, as although this was a hit in Europe and is considered a classic, it unfortunately (and surprisingly) didn’t make such of an impression on the US market.I was of course looking for “Nik Kershaw” and “Wouldn’t It Be Good“, which was correctly recognised by Clete6, Alan Novich and Spnnrn. Well done you 3!!

If you’re curious about this song or the artist, just click on the album cover to be taken to Amazon, where you can find out more…

Todays offering is one of my all time favorite songs, and it dates back to 1956 I believe (Hil, this one is for you!).

There are 5 points on offer for today’s clip!

Name the Tune for 1 point, name both artists singing the song for points no 2 & 3

For extra points! This song was covered in the early 90s (guessing) by an english couple, (in my opinion the cover version came nowhere near the original!) For points 4 & 5, name the couple that sang the duett again in the 90s.

Oh and if you tell me which version you like best, and why, then there’s an extra bonus point, making it 6

Hi Dave “True Love” by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. Elton John and Kiki Dee did this song in 1993. Taking a guess that Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville did it in the late 90s. My favorite version is the original by Bing and Grace because in my humble opinion, i think original versions are better about 85 per cent of the time. Dan

I replied via email, but came back to this. True Love from high society with bing crosby and grace kelly (and frank sinatra and celeste holm, whom I just saw at the cabaret convention). Dave, the world has covered this, but you are probably thinking of elton and kiki. Which do I like better????? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. der bingle with the most beautiful woman to ever grace a screen, vs. elton and kiki ????? Hahahahahahahahahaha.

Looking through Whitburn’s Pop Annual, the first duet I see in 1956 is True Love by Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. It just happens to have been covered by Elton John and Kiki Dee in 1993, so odds are that’s what you’re looking for. I don’t remember the song, but I believe I have the original on vinyl, so that must be my favorite since I’ve never heard the cover version.

  7. Spnnrn says:

    1) song: True Love

2&3) Bing Crosby & Grace Kelly

4&5) Elton John & Kiki Dee

    6) I also like the original much better because it’s softer and sounds more like a love song. Elton & Kiki each do a little solo in the middle which revs it up too much.
