Tribute to Rhoda

As most of you will now know, Mystery Lyrics player Rhoda sadly passed away a few days ago. It seems that she had undergone an operation for uteral cancer, and died from complications arising from the operation.

Included in this post are two tributes to Rhoda, from people that knew her well. If you would like to add your tributes and memories of Rhoda, please feel free to do so by adding them as a comment at the foot of this page. It would also be very nice if people with photos of Rhoda forwarded them to me.

Rest in Peace Rhoda!

“My first memories of Rho and the trivia gang came about in 1998, oh those many years ago. I stumbled in the trivia room, I sat and watched. I kept showing up because these folks were and still are hilarious!
Rho, along with many others, made me feel so welcome.
I ventured out to off-line and met folks from trivia at Momsy’s home, New Year’s Eve of 1998. I remember walking up to Momsy’s Rho met me at the door. The rest is history.
It was like a east Indian bazaar, we were all vying for words, to be as funny as we were in the room. But there was no denying the love and camaraderie that came across. What we had forged in the ‘room’ we carried over into real life.
We had our bashes, too much fun and way too short.
Rho took me under her wing. I started dating a Jewish man, and she had all the answers. ( I still use her recipe for matzoh balls, delicious!).
We had lunch at her home, she was there for me and was a gracious woman. She used Vaguememory’s soup recipe. Here I was the shiksa, they were all SO happy to explain the Yiddish to me! LOL
She quit smoking and decided ( with a suggestion from HelloJudy to write a trivia cookbook). If you can get your hands on that cookbook grab it! It’s selling now for $400 on E-bay. HA!! It’s worth it, Emmatobe’s recipe for chicken and wine recipe alone, is worth the price.
Sadly, the last time I saw her in real life was the Las Vegas bash, four years ago. But things and circumstances, life( whatever word you want to use) change. We kept in touch via e-mails.
She never minced words, you knew where you stood with Rho. She was confident in her convictions.
As she aged, she walked with a cane and wore a wig( Alan you HUSH! LOL) but she was there, plugging along, she LOVED being with all of us.
Like a lot of us, AOL was a diversion, and she had fun along with all of us. And when I think of Rho I smile.”

“I first met Rhodat on line in a trivia room back in 2007. It wasn’t long after that Rho helped set up the very first luncheon in New Jersey with many of the room triviots from all over New York, New Jersey Connecticut and even Pennsylvania to meet in person. I was very nervous about the meeting and online being on line the horror stories you hear and not personally knowing anyone and not relishing the thought of my driving two hours down to New Jersey in all the traffic they gladly agreed to let me bring my daughter along to put my mind at ease.

Meeting Rho the first time and every other time was wonderful, She was sincere, warm, funny, spunky, generous, feisty full of laughter and a very special person. She just had a way of always making you feel so welcome. Besides mostly contact by emails all these years, I had the honor and pleasure of spending a few luncheons and parties with her over the years. Even though she didn’t always agree with me and we couldn’t get together often I’m proud to say she was my friend and I loved her dearly and know she felt the same. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. Her death is such a loss for us all.”
